Flood Relief Scheme Concerns

We are shocked to learn that the Conservatives at Surrey County Council have set aside no funding to deliver the River Thames Scheme (flood relief scheme).

This is despite promises made after the major flooding in the Thorpe, Chertsey and Egham areas over 12 years ago.

It’s hard to see this as anything other than a betrayal of local residents who have wanted to see progress on this scheme for several years, and it’s totally wrong that they tried to quietly bury this fact by not formally announcing their intention to drop the funding.

In fact when you look at the River Thames Scheme website there has been no update since May 2025! https://www.riverthamesscheme.org.uk/  

But there’s still hope - If elected we will work with the Government to find a solution to deliver this very important scheme for both our residents and the local economy. Yet another reason to ditch the Conservatives and vote Lib Dem for a fresh start on May 7th.
