New £1.3 million fund puts Runnymede communities in control of local improvements

Runnymede Borough Council has launched an exciting new £1.3 million fund that will directly benefit local residents through improved infrastructure and enhanced public spaces across the borough. The Community Infrastructure Fund represents a significant investment in making Runnymede an even better place to live, work and visit.
Community groups throughout the Borough are now being invited to apply for grants from this substantial funding pot. Don Whyte, Co-Leader of Runnymede Council, said: "This fund puts power directly into the hands of our communities. Local groups know best what improvements their areas need."
This investment comes at a time when residents are increasingly concerned about the quality of local infrastructure and public amenities. The fund provides an opportunity for grassroots organisations to address local priorities, whether that's improving community centres, enhancing green spaces, upgrading sports facilities, or creating better pedestrian access.
The benefits for residents are clear. Rather than top-down decisions about what communities need, this fund puts local groups in the driving seat to propose projects that will make a real difference to daily life.
"We're building stronger, more resilient communities by giving them a voice on how to improve their own areas," added Cllr Whyte. "This is exactly the kind of community-led approach that Liberal Democrats champion."
This £1.3 million investment is separate from other significant funding streams the council has secured recently including a £7 million developer-funded infrastructure programme that's also now accepting applications.

The fund represents exactly the kind of forward-thinking approach that puts communities first and ensures public money delivers maximum benefit for local people.
