Worried about climate change? The people’s emergency briefing helps explain the gravity of what we’re dealing with
The climate and nature crisis can feel overwhelming, but a short film doing the rounds locally manages something rare: it sets out the scale of the problem clearly and outlines just how the climate crisis is impacting every aspect of our lives.
The People's Emergency Briefing brings together scientists, experts and some well known public figures to explain why urgent action on climate and nature matters, and what it could achieve. Runnymede and Weybridge Liberal Democrats have seen it screened locally, followed by a thoughtful discussion that left the room with plenty to think about. If you have not yet had the chance to watch it, three local screenings are coming up.
- Virginia Water Community Association film club is showing it on Friday 28 August at 20:00, doors open 19:30.
- Englefield Green Village Centre will screen it on Tuesday 22 September at 20:00, doors open 19:30.
- St John's Eco Church in Egham is holding a second showing on Monday 21 September at 19:30, doors open 19:00, after strong demand for the first.
Runnymede & Weybridge Lib Dems believe the best response to a crisis this size is fair, practical solutions that bring people along on the journey. Nationally, the Liberal Democrats have set out plans to cut energy bills, insulate homes and support nature's recovery, treating climate and nature as two sides of the same problem rather than competing priorities.
