Candidates for Thorpe, Longcross & Ottershaw

Don and Sylvia Whyte have been councillors for the Longcross, Lyne & Chertsey South ward since 2019 and are now standing for election in the new ward of Thorpe, Longcross & Ottershaw for the inaugural West Surrey Unitary Authority. The ward also includes Chertsey South, Lyne and a part of Virginia Water.

With a wealth of business and local authority experience they are keen to carry on the work they have started, representing the local community.  Since May 2024 they have been part of the Runnymede Council Alliance who collectively manage the council. Their achievements include:

  • Reduction of Runnymede Borough Council debt by £30m
  • Production of a balanced budget
  • Additional protection for nature and it's recovery
  • Reduction of Runnymede's Carbon footprint
  • Delivered first social housing for decades
  • Upgraded car parks
  • Employed a Social Inclusion Officer to assist those in financial need
  • Introduced the Big Green Week
  • Invested in Local Communities using Developer Contributions
  • Invested in NHS capacity for Runnymede
  • Worked as a team with other councillors for the benefit of the community
  • Regularly communicate with all residents in our ward
  • Hold monthly surgeries for all to attend
  • Reduced the speed limit from 60mph to 40mph in Stonehill Rd
  • Facilitated Yellow lines to prevent dangerous parking
