What Climate Emergency?

We were shocked that yet again Runnymede Borough Council have failed to deliver their Climate Change Strategy at last night's (Wednesday 17th November) Environment & Sustainability Committee. Promise after promise has been broken. No Climate Emergency has been declared (requested over two years ago) which would put the Climate Crisis at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to keep holding the administration to account and move Runnymede towards being a greener council. Runnymede Liberal Democrats believe that one way to address the national housing crisis is to encourage dwellings that have been empty for two or more years back into occupation. This allows councils to charge premiums of 100%, 200% and 300% for dwellings that have been empty for more than 2, 5 and 10 years respectively. The full details of the motion can be seen below:

Onslow residents to get improved crossing facilities on The Chase

Lib Dem County Councillor Angela Goodwin is delighted that a road safety scheme on The Chase in Onslow, that she has long been lobbying for on behalf of residents, has now received the go-ahead from Surrey County Council for implementation in 2023/24. Although the details are yet to be confirmed, solutions being looked at are the installation of a zebra crossing that links Benbrick Road to Elmside on The Chase and the possible closure of the northern slip into St John's Road.
