What Climate Emergency?

We were shocked that yet again Runnymede Borough Council have failed to deliver their Climate Change Strategy at last night's (Wednesday 17th November) Environment & Sustainability Committee. Promise after promise has been broken. No Climate Emergency has been declared (requested over two years ago) which would put the Climate Crisis at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to keep holding the administration to account and move Runnymede towards being a greener council. New Access Road In Bittams Lane Approved

A new access road from the proposed development known as Bittams D (Parklands) onto Bittams Lane, Chertsey, was approved at Wednesday evenings Planning Committee (3rd November 2021), despite Cllr Sylvia Whyte raising the issue about the unsuitability of Bittams Lane to have another access road. Housing Crisis

Runnymede Liberal Democrats believe that one way to address the national housing crisis is to encourage dwellings that have been empty for two or more years back into occupation. For this reason we are bringing forward a motion to Runnymede Borough Council on the 15th July 2021 for the implementation of the Empty Dwelling Council Tax Premiums as legislated by the Government in November 2018. This allows councils to charge premiums of 100%, 200% and 300% for dwellings that have been empty for more than 2, 5 and 10 years respectively. The full details of the motion can be seen below:
